Hey gang,
I’m imagining that a lot of you are at least marginally curious about what I’m up to lately. I haven’t been out performing as often as I have in the past (although I’ve got two upright gigs tomorrow – pray for my fingers!), and certainly haven’t been blogging about what’s happening musically, so here’s the scoop:
Playing with Gabby La La is on hold for now. Gabby’s exploring a new project called Snow Angel with Pamela Parker (who is awesome), so for now she is bass/drum-less. Only the future knows whether we will play again or not! For now, not.
I got to do an awesome recording project this July with Lauren O’Connell at Prairie Sun and can’t wait for the record to come out so you can all hear it! My buddy Dave Rollans played drums, and I’m just so stoked with how things are coming out. I love working with good people on good music. It was also great to connect with the guys at Prairie Sun, who really liked my playing and have already recommended me for another upcoming project!
Some new musical sparks are bouncing around. I’m not sure what will take form yet or how, but some new people are coming into my life as old projects dry up a bit and seem to be making room for a new something. I can’t put my finger on it, but I sense a really awesome new musical venture opening in my life soon. Not sure what it will sound like or who will be involved, but it will feel good and the communication between musicians will be delightfully deep and clear.
I filmed an awesome funk jam video with a drummer friend today, I’ll let you guys know when it’s available.
I recently entered a video contest for Bootsy’s online university Funk U and won a one-year scholarship. It seems geared towards mostly intermediate students, but I’m excited to check it out and see what I can get out of it, and maybe give to it! At the very least, I hope Bootsy sees me play!
I’m looking to teach more bass students, and many possibilities are opening themselves in front of me. Not sure which will pan out and which will evaporate, but what’s important is I’m feeling this tremendous sense of possibility and excitement.
The winds of change are blowing gently and powerfully. After coming back from a 6-day meditation retreat a week ago, I’ve felt so clear about what belongs in my life and what I need to eliminate. Life just gets better and better as I wake up and grow up! Cheers.
